How can you support all our farmers, food, wine, craft beverage producers and local travel destinations during this uncertain time? If you can’t travel locally, buy their products online! They rely on your business to keep food on their tables just like we rely on their businesses to literally keep food on OUR tables. Crowds are low, prices are right, the air is fresh and spirits are high! So take a drive, pick up curbside from a farm store or tasting room, and shop shop shop online! Take sound precautions, wash your hands, stay home if you’re ill and check the Centers For Disease Control (CDC) website for latest updates.

We will be highlighting specific ways and businesses you can support weekly right here at the EscapeMaker Blog. Check out below for a few simple ways to help the local gems we’ve all come to love so much…and check back next week for more ideas. In the meantime, follow us on InstagramFacebook and Twitter for real-time updates and ideas to help support local businesses around us. We’re all in this together… support agritourism!

Nominate a Hero: Tell us (in 1000 words or less) about your healthcare worker or first responder friend, colleague, or relative’s impact so we can honor and reward their work on the frontlines! We want to thank all the healthcare workers and first responders out there for going above and beyond in keeping us safe and healthy during this time. Their selfless dedication, compassion, and resilience save lives every day. No one deserves a relaxing weekend getaway more than they do! As a show of gratitude over the next few months, we’ve asked our lodging partners to give away FREE LOCAL VACATIONS to be taken in 2021 and beyond (or whenever we’re given the official green light to travel again). Until then, based on the nominations we receive, we’ll be giving away a few local weekend getaways within a day’s drive or train ride of NYC to those most deserving!

Go Fish: State parks reopened in Central New Jersey! Lots of social distance while fishing from the Griggstown Lock. Escape to the outdoors this weekend!

NY Bagels: Chef Paul brightening everyone’s day with fresh bagels at Fulton Stall Market! Stop by the market in the Seaport District for all your farm fresh essentials. ?⠀

Boozy Brunch: Just because Mother’s Day has passed doesn’t mean you can’t still treat her. Give Mom a boozy sipper with her breakfast in bed! Maybe Beaverkill Bourbon Cream Coffee? Bootlegger Bloody Mary? “Old School” Screw Driver? Prohibition Distillery in the Sullivan Catskills is able to ship to anywhere in NY State and to Washington, DC, so you can give Mom what she deserves! Check it out here.⠀

Support a Farm: Farmers need us. And we all need farmers. The Stone Barns team has joined forces with Blue Hill Farm to launch #resourcED, an emergency response to support the local food movement through the Covid crisis and beyond. If we don’t act now, a generation of small farms will be at risk. The case for a robust regional food system has never been more compelling – join in laying out a path forward for the independent farms and food. Check it out here.

Make Future Travel Plans: Anyone else missing weekend getaways to the incredible mountains of the Sullivan Catskills or the waterfalls of Ithaca and the Finger Lakes? Keep making those escape bucket lists for when travel returns to normal!

Produce Delivery: Hawthorne Valley has partnered with Pepper Pantry for home delivery in NYC! Right now. they are providing home delivery between Canal St and 42nd st. They will be expanding this area in the coming weeks. All deliveries are made by bicycle to your door and are available on Wednesdays and Saturdays currently, with a Sunday option coming soon.
