Make
Ithaca your Winter Getaway
Your
non-traditional home for the holidays.

Dear
EscapeMakers -- Have you ever tapped your own maple tree? With
Ithaca’s rich year-round agriculture, there’s still harvesting
to be done, even in the snow-blanketed hills. Sugar shacks populate
the forests of the Finger Lakes; some have even popped up in the
backyards of local bed and breakfasts. Learn
from locals about their sugar bushes or attend a guided tour from
Cornell professors at the 37th annual Maple Fest! A
unique and memorable experience for all ages.

Do
you know how to make pizza dough? Ever had a formal education
on tequila?
The
bountiful culinary knowledge in the area provide opportunities
for many courses with a variation of focuses. Interested in learning
how to bake artisan bread, make pizza dough or even pretzels?
Check out the 10+ baking courses from Wide Awake Bakery.
Ever wanted an in-depth lesson on tacos and tequila, tapas or
fine dining family food? Chef Patrick from Coltivare,
the farm-to-table bistro, can and will teach you in their culinary
lab. Maybe you’re a carnivore and looking to learn about our local
animal farms. The Piggery, a locally-sourced,
artisan butchers’ shop is leading lessons in how to butcher a
pig. If these classes don’t work into your trip here, you can
always try a tour with Ithaca is Foodies Culinary Tours.
Two tour guides who grew up eating here and know it better than
anyone.
Many
restaurants are offering special pre-fixe menus to start your
NYE off on a delicious note, including Hazelnut
Kitchen with wine pairing, The
Rook with craft beverage pairing, and Bickering
Twins with Liquid State Beer pairing!

Have
you ever seen a waterfall frozen in time?
Ithaca
is home to over 150 gorges waterfalls. As the temperature
drops, the water stops. Waterfalls that are frozen in time and
space is a spectacular sight to see. Check out spots like Ithaca
Falls and Buttermilk Falls. Even Taughannock Falls, the tallest
waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains (215 ft, 33 ft taller than
Niagara Falls) sometimes freezes mid-motion. This is a calling
to resident ice climbers, who have been certified through Cornell.
