Enjoy the gifts of late summer in Dutchess County! Sit back and relax on your way up to Beacon from NYC — BYO lunch for the ride! Upon arrival, we’ll hike one of the top attractions in the Hudson Valley, Mount Beacon. Yes, the trail up Mount Beacon is steep, but occasional switchbacks make the aerobic workout manageable. The hike actually begins on a staircase following the course of the Beacon Incline Railway, in the early 20th century the world’s steepest funicular and one of the Hudson Valley’s prime tourist attractions. The trail to Mount Beacon’s summit, a shade over a mile and steadily uphill, follows a winding road that passes some lovely rock formations. Deer and other wildlife abound! From the summit you’ll be treated to spectacular, panoramic views of the Hudson River.
Afterwards, we’ll head into Beacon’s vibrant dining scene where you will be set free for dinner on your own. We will also transport you between Hudson Valley Brewery, 2 Way Brewing and Denning’s Point Distillery, which offer tastings and tours with any purchase. See below for a bit of info on each!
Denning’s Point Distillery: Denning’s Point spirits are made entirely of local grain and celebrate the rich history of the Hudson Valley. Check out the tasting room, and follow as the distilling team shows us the ins and outs of spirit brewing with a tour and tasting.
Hudson Valley Brewery: Like the Hudson Valley itself, Hudson Valley Brewery believes their beers stand somewhere between the rural and the urban, the traditional and the modern, the rustic and the industrial. Their brewing techniques are inspired by the brewing practices of traditional European breweries as well as the more aggressive, experimental practices of American breweries.
2 Way Brewing: 2 Way Brewing Company is a micro craft brewery and bar located in Beacon, NY and servicing Newburgh, NY. Opened September, 2014, the name was inspired by its location on the “two way” river. The river, which is technically an estuary, was called the Muhheakantuck, or “river that flows both ways” by the Lenape tribe who inhabited the lower Hudson River Valley when the Europeans arrived. The brewing team taps into the Hudson Valley resources – the climate and farmland perfect for hop production, and world famous water – to produce beers as unique as any the world has to offer.
