STORM
KING, NY DAYTRIP
|
|
Storm
King Arts Center is a magical day trip just 1 1/2 hours
from New York City. This sculpture park with breathtaking
views of the beautiful Hudson Highlands, celebrates the relationship
between nature and sculpture.
Five hundred beautifully landscaped
acres provide a unique backdrop for 120 larger-than-life abstract
sculptures. At times, you might even feel as though you were
starring in one of those "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids"
movies.
|
|
Founded
in 1960, many of the sculptures are post-war reflections.
There are some works on display by contemporary sculptors
as well. The park holds special events throughout the year
and daily tours at 2pm. Besides taking guided tours visitors
are encouraged to meander the grounds.
ShortLine Buses will
drop you at the Friendlys Restaurant in Vails
Gate where you can call and get a taxi transfer to the park
(included in the package) or stop for lunch before calling.
The
grounds are so lovely at Storm King, we recommend bringing
a picnic lunch to enjoy. Note that Storm King does not have
any dining facilities other than a few vending machines, so
plan your meals accordingly.
